This is a personal totem painting that i made for Ellygator's contest... [link]

I'm not sure if i'm done with it, but i am a bit disappointed in it. I didn't really have a solid image in mind, i was just going with the flow. It was a fast, spur of the moment thing, and i just.. didn't know what i was doing, really.

I might darken the heck out of it. Or something. Suggestions or helpful critique are appreciated.

Hawk is my primary totem, which i've been aware of since i was a child. Phoenix is a slightly more recent energy (only 7-8 years or so...) that i've been trying to work with.

Thank you for looking. I am glad you like it. <3

Very interesting! It's a bit strange to see a phoenix portrayed in water/ice colors and shapes, especially in contrast to the redtail's warmer coloration.

Maybe the off-putting point is the lack of lines. The hawk is the only thing in the picture with a solid outline, and it is right in the center. As your focus moves outward from him, there aren't really any other points to catch on, as the soft colors kind of flow together.

Thank you for the lovely comment...

Phoenix for me has always been blues and whites, but.. it still burns in a way. Just a different sort of fire, i suppose... I personally am very connected to Water, so i suppose that's not too surprising.

I am pondering going back in and adding some linework of some kind... it's new to me, as i usually don't ink anything.

I think the biggest problem for me is the bottom of the picture.. i don't really know how to make water look watery. So i'm going to spend some time looking at reference pictures and practicing little watercolors.. (when i have time, someday..)

But good points! Thanks again. :)

This is really beautiful! You draw birds really well!<3 They are a big stumbling point for me (you think owning 4 of them would give me the chance to study and practice them...but alas I'm too lazy :p)

What kind of birds do you have? :)
:iconmudpaw:

aaahh beep-beeps! I love the sounds zebra finches make. Every time i see them i am sorely tempted.... But the cats or the malamute would probably scare them to death.
